Beijing - Taste of China
Beijing is the capital of one of the world's oldest civilizations. It is unlike any other city in China, totally unrepresentative in grand capital style, a true center at the edge. Conquest dynasties from the north including Jurchens, Quitans, Mongols and Manchus either overran each other or Han rulers to establish, destroy, rebuild or occupy cities here. All who came, saw, and conquered left their marks, monuments and memories. Today's Beijing is similarly a melting pot of different influences. Expect to see modern day Chinese enjoying a Starbucks coffee alongside traditional Chinese practicing Thai Ch'i in public squares.
