Eagle Festival
Kazakhs residing in the Altai Mountains and in the basin of Mongolia's Great Lakes constitute one of Mongolia's major ethnic minorities. Living in the western-most part of Mongolia, they continue to practice the ancient sport of Kazakhs: hunting with their eagles. The Kazakhs only hunt with their eagles during winter time, when the pelts of rabbits, red fox and grey wolf are at their most luxuriant. The eagles are released back into the wild to breed once they have reached the age of eight or ten.
