Trekking in the Altai

Trek in the Altai Mountains, one of the three main mountain rangers in Mongolia. The highest peaks in Mongolia are all situated in this range. Western Mongolian landscapes, snow-covered mountains, and the nomadic lifestyles of some of Mongolia’s groups such as the Kazakh and Uriankhai people will create unforgettable memories for the active traveler.
Days and Itinerary

Day 1-2 Arrival/Ulaanbaatar Arrive Ulaanbaatar and tour city. Visit museums, Buddhist centers and enjoy a cultural performance.

Day 3 Ulaanbaatar/Bayan Olgii

Flight to Olgii. Transfer to Altai village on the crystal clear Chihertei river. On-site orientation.

Day 4-13 Trekking in the Altai Mountain Range

Trek in the spectacular beauty of the snow-capped Altai range. Trek through wild territory across green mountain pastures and spectacular passes. Explore the lifestyle of an Urinkhai family, an importance ethnic minority of Mongolia. Observe many soecies of birds and mammals that make their homes in the Altai Mountains.

Day 14 Olgii Town

Leisure time or reserve day for optional local Naadam festival. Visit local Kazakh families, who tame and train Golden Eagles for winter hunting. Enjoy Kazakh cultural performance. Tour the Ethnography Museum in Olgii town or small markets. Trek celebration dinner with Mongolian specialties.

Day 15-16 Ulaanbaatar/Departure

Fly to Ulaanbaatar and depart for home.
